Empowering Change: Women in Elections up 52% in 2024
✨ Empowering Women in Elections
With the General Election just around the corner, we’re witnessing a historic shift in Irish politics. There’s been a 52% increase in women candidates compared to the last election, with 246 women running in constituencies across the country—marking a significant step towards more balanced representation.
Ireland is currently ranked 104th in the world for the number of women in national parliaments, with just 23% of the outgoing Dáil being women. This election provides a powerful opportunity for change, with women candidates running in every constituency and at least two women in each one. It’s time to make sure every constituency in Ireland has a woman TD, for the very first time.
As part of this effort, I’ve had the pleasure of providing media training to candidates through this election cycle—helping them share their message confidently and connect effectively with voters. It’s been inspiring to see these women step up and make their voices heard.
I recently listened to Sean Defoe's podcast, #LetMeExplain, where he discussed why more women makes sense for Irish democracy. It’s not about women being better than men; it’s about creating a balance that leads to better politics and stronger representation for everyone. Social Media Fest 2024: Empowering Change
This week, I had the honour of speaking at Social Media Fest 2024—a fantastic event dedicated to helping businesses make the most of their online presence.
I spoke about the importance of storytelling and clear communication as essential tools for leading change in business. In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, having a clear, authentic message is key to staying ahead and truly connecting with your audience.
I was especially delighted to attend alongside the students of Content Creation and Photography from Ballyfermot College of Further Education, who had the opportunity to network with industry experts and get inspired by leaders in the field. It was great to share the stage with Amanda Wallace and Andrew Clohessy, discussing leading change in business.
Thank you to Samantha Kelly for the invitation, and to all who made the day memorable. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am already looking forward to next year's event on April 9th, 2025.
